I'm Kind of a Blogger Now...

Hey, you made it! Welcome to The Shower Thoughts Series. This is my own, personal blog and I could not be more excited to finally be starting this. For those of you who know me, hey, thanks for being here! For those who might not, welcome and thanks for taking an interest in what I have to say! My name is Selena Frongillo and I am a 22 (almost 23) year old living in Massachusetts. I graduated college last May, receiving my BS in Marketing Communication with a minor in Professional Writing. With having spent almost a year now in the real world marketing for colleges, I've decided to finally start working on my personal goals and passions - one of them, being this blog. I not only want to talk about my experiences in this blog, but so many others' as well. I want to dig deep into those thoughts in our heads (those shower thoughts) that really shake us to our core, make us laugh out loud, make us sit on the shower floor wasting all of the hot water, and make us want to sing at the top of our lungs. I want to get into it all, and I hope you'll want to join me for this roller coaster of a ride.

So, for this first post, I really wanted to get into why I've started this blog. First of all, I'd like to say...what took me so long?? Writing has been a passion of mine since I could form words. From made up stories, to songs, you could always catch me with my eyes glued to paper, tip tapping or scribbling away. But, why now, you might ask? Well, first of all, as you all are quite aware, we are in quarantine/distancing/isolation (whatever you want to call it). So, as someone who can't sit still for too long, this really put a 180 spin on my life. I am someone who thrives on social plans, and here I am forced to sit on my couch day in and day out (as we all are - shoutout to the healthcare and essential workers saving our world). But, as some of you may have read in a previous blog of mine for She Will Speak (a women's empowerment company) about some positives COVID-19 has brought, this finally gave me the time to look inwards, set goals, and execute them.

So, this internal convo started with, okay what am I passionate about? What do I really want to do? How do I want to make an impact? This began with me joining the She Will Speak team, which I am still a proud member of in which I write weekly blogs about various topics, mainly surrounding women and feminism. But then, I wanted more. I wanted to discuss even more topics, of my choosing, on my own platform. And so, The Shower Thoughts Series was born. Now, I know I'm making this sound a lot more simple than it really is. Finding your passion? AND executing it? Not an easy feat. Which is why, during this "welcome" post, I wanted to give a few tips on how to define your passion, and set goals to achieve it.

First and foremost - use this time to your advantage. Yeah, yeah, we've all heard it. But when you really think about it, we will never have this much free time again (God willing...please no more pandemics). So, really sit in this time and think...what do I like? Literally make a list of things you like to do. And not just, hang out with your friends, go to the beach, or play video games. What excites you? What lights you up? What is something you can't go a day without thinking about? Is it something that you've never tried before? Is it learning how to paint? Is it joining a book club? Is it just baking with your mom? HOT TAKE - you don’t have to be an expert at your passion. Use this time to explore new things, or old things.

Okay, now you've decided what that thing is that really amps you up. Now what? Now you start doing it. No, you don't have to go writing a novel. Nope, don't have to earn your black belt in karate. Baby steps - remember this. Many of us try to go full force into things, thinking we have to make it to the finish line before we've even started the race. Don't look ahead just yet. Let's say you set a goal, you're super into fitness and want to start running more. You set a goal to run 3 miles in a week. Make sure this goal is actually achievable. Okay, now run the 3 miles!! And the next week, maybe you'll run 4 miles, and the next maybe 5. Wait, did you just hit 10 miles? Woah, are you marathon-bound? It's a spiral effect. Once you start doing that thing that makes you tick, you want to do more and more of it and before you know it, you're running marathons, or writing two blogs like me :).

So, do the damn thing! What are you waiting for? If this is the sign you need, then here it is. Start. Your. Life. Do not wait around for someday. I just declared today someday. Fill your life with what you love, and thank me later. Again, thank you all for taking the time to read this long intro post, and I hope you'll be back for more! (if so, please subscribe!)

I love the message of this. I'm a huge believer that whatever we want to do, we should just begin and then 'act as if'. See where it takes us. I'm so glad to have found you, looking forward to browsing your blog.
